Many major retailers, grocery stores and restaurants will remain open on Christmas Eve, though most will operate with reduced hours, giving shoppers and travelers limited time to run last-minute errands.

Several grocery chains will close early on Dec. 24. Aldi locations typically shut their doors around 4 p.m., while Trader Joe’s closes at 5 p.m. Wegmans and Stop & Shop both close at 6 p.m., and Whole Foods closes at 7 p.m. Food Lion stores will remain open until 7 p.m., with in-store pharmacies operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Major drugstore chains will also be open. CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens plan to operate on Christmas Eve, though store and pharmacy hours may vary by location.

Many fast-food chains and casual restaurants will continue serving customers throughout the day, though hours differ locally. Select Applebee’s locations will be open, along with Burger King, Dunkin’, IHOP, McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Starbucks. Chick-fil-A locations are also listed as open on Christmas Eve. Domino’s stores are not required to open, and customers are encouraged to check local hours.

Mail and delivery services will largely continue operating. U.S. Post Office locations will be open, and regular mail delivery will take place, though Priority Mail Express will not be delivered. Mail placed in blue collection boxes will still be picked up. atOptions PS will deliver packages, though pickup services may be limited.

Shoppers looking to buy last-minute gifts will find many retailers open with shortened schedules. Best Buy will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., while Target will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Walmart plans to close at 6 p.m., and Costco will also close early. Home Depot will shut its doors at 5 p.m.

Several department and specialty stores will also operate on reduced hours: Kohl’s from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Macy’s from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Michaels from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and HomeGoods, Marshalls, Sierra and T.J. Maxx from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. IKEA and JCPenney will be open with hours varying by location. Most Dollar General stores will remain open until 10 p.m., while Petco locations generally close early around 7 p.m.

On Wall Street, the U.S. stock market will be open on Christmas Eve, but trading will end early at 1 p.m. Eastern, instead of the usual 4 p.m. close.
